The Palette wells

For every palette well contained in the Palette window you define:

The name of the palette well.

The attributes of the palette well, which defines in which layers the palette well can be used.

The type of palette well, which defines the rendering effect that the palette well produces when it is used.

Names

The name of a palette well is simply a textual name that you can define for each palette well in the Palette window.

The name is used throughout all palette wells in that position in the Palette window, for all the palettes defined for the color model.

Attributes

There are three possible attributes that can be defined for a palette well:

Ink only - the palette well can only be used in the Trace layer.

Paint only - the palette well can only be used in the Paint layer.

Ink and Paint - the palette well can be used in both layers.

Types

There are three types of palette well that can be defined:

Color - defines a color that can be applied to either:

a region in the Paint layer to paint the character, or

a drawing line in the Trace layer to ink the character in a color other than the default.

Blend - defines a color that can be applied to a drawing line in the Trace layer to create a blend between the two colors either side of the line.

: You specify the width over which the two colors are blended.

Line Thickening - defines a color that can be applied to the Trace layer to set not only color, but also the thickness and appearance of drawing lines: a sort of 'line style'. You set the color of the line, its minimum width, and the way in which it is rendered.

The same palette well can have different types in different palettes, but can't have different attributes. For example, an ink only palette well could be a color in one palette, a blend in another and a line thickening in a third.
